6. fight what fight?

  • Stamford Arts Centre Black Box 155 Waterloo Street Singapore, 187962 Singapore (map)

Communities aren’t always safe spaces. Fights take place within and between communities. Sometimes the fights are mental, sometimes they are verbal, and at times they escalate and get physical. In this triple-bill, our performers tackle the question of "What does it mean to be safe within a community?" through the internal and external manifestation of combat.

Featuring:

Modern Schemers (Singapore)
“Le Troupe” by Modern Schemers explores the hidden lives and secret dramas of improvisers trying to navigate the waters of their troubled lives and dubious craft. Set in the rehearsal space of a group of improvisers calling themselves “Le Troupe”, the improvisers struggle to find unscripted harmony mere moments before their performance at the Singapore Improv Festival. In this meta piece of improvised theatre, join Singapore’s longest-running improv team for a raw, unflinching, and hilarious exploration of the improv world's underbelly, where the laughter and applause are hard-won, and the true art lies in the courage to confront the wounds they share.

Buwan ng Wika (Philippines)
Presenting their courtroom format "Tutol Ako" (I Object) as a long-form improvised set, players carry their objections to shape their point of view and characters in a town-based setting, reflecting the Filipino banter of one-upping each other in a friendly manner, while trying to dig deep into the details of their lives and points of view. Named after a month-long celebration dedicated to honouring the national language, Buwan ng Wika is an improv group that loves to celebrate the spirit of everything Pinoy humour and pop culture.

Stage Combat (International)
Inspired by action movies, video, games and anarcho-punk, a group of international improvisers, using what they’ve learnt from a workshop conducted by Lai Chen-Te (Director from Guts Improv Theatre), bring martial arts combat to the improv stage. Through close combat interaction, performers will open their minds, listen to partners, and create authentic scenes and stories on stage.
The show by Stage Combat will feature workshop participants from Lai Chen Te’s workshop ’Improvised Stage Combat’.
