16. the whole is greater than the sum of its parts

  • Stamford Arts Centre Black Box 155 Waterloo Street Singapore, 187962 Singapore (map)

A community is made up of people. People are driven by their desires. But when put together, the needs of the collective can change how people view their wants. Each of the shows in this triple-bill examines how being in a group creates more value than that of the parts as they answer the question “What does it mean to be together?”

Featuring:

Improv Lore (India)
Cricket, the sport, is a great unifier and equaliser in India. Improv Lore presents ‘Howzaat!’, an exploration of the cross-sections of society, brought together by cricket. Through approaching the unique situations faced by individual characters, the show brings them together, however fleetingly, by Cricket. And within those moments, problems are discussed, perspectives are shared, and lives are impacted. Based in Bengaluru, Improv Lore is dedicated to fostering creativity through the art of play.

Jacintha & Rik (Finland & Australia)
Two internationally renowned performers come together to create a funny yet moving set about their ability to achieve more as a pair instead of working as individuals. Jacintha Damström is a circus artist and a leading member of the professional improvisation group “Stjärnfall”. She also works as a classical musician, physical actress and clown. Rik Brown has been a member of the Melbourne improv scene for the past 25 years and is known for his mischievous style, sharp mind and strong grasp of Character and Narrative.

Les Musicables (Singapore)
As humans, we have parts of us that we love and parts of us that we resent. If we had the chance to write a letter to ourselves, what would we say? In this song cycle musical by premier musical improv group Les Musicables, join the cast as they create songs inspired by letters from the audience and collectively process, celebrate, and heal through the collaborative power of improv, bundled with the spirit of togetherness.
