11. what are words?

  • The Theatre Practice 54 Waterloo Street Singapore, 187953 Singapore (map)

Why do we have communities? Perhaps it’s to help a clown who has no knowledge of the spoken word. Or it’s because we want to feel comfortable in some sort of physical togetherness with each other. In this double bill, see how both the audience and performers function as a community that supports, uplifts and builds upon each other to devise shows that transcend and move beyond the spoken word.

Featuring:

Oshow (Japan)
"Words Beggar," is a solo improv clown show that has been performed in numerous countries and cultures. The clown "Shonshon," who does not know words, interacts with the audience and creates a world of imagination while being taught words by the audience. Beyond language and culture, the idea is to unite the audience as a single community working together to help Shonshon as they co-create a show filled with laughter and excitement.

The Movement (International)
Through various physical improv techniques including mime, contact improv dance, wordless storytelling, scene pictures, emotional improvised movement, and kinesthetic reactions, join the cast of The Movement as they construct a community through physical improvisation, music, and imagination, in a beautiful improvised experience where artists make worlds out of their bodies and then fill their own space with meaningful scenes.
