7. “Expanding Acting Horizons: Navigating Realistic and Exaggerated Acting” by Chao, Huai Yu (GUTS) (Taiwan)

Synopsis:

In this workshop, we will explore various acting styles—realistic performance and exaggerated performance. From embodying characters with authentic emotional expressions to showcasing dramatic effects with exaggerated flair, this workshop will help you expand your role-playing versatility. We will introduce different narrative approaches and master how to adapt flexibly across a range of theatrical genres.

About the teacher - Chao, Huai Yu (Taiwan)

Chao Huai Yu aka. Nisha Chao is a Director of Guts Improv Theatre.

From Taiwan, Huai Yu is an Actor, Improviser, Improv Director and Improv Coach. She has been a member of Guts Improv Theatre since 2009.

Huai Yu teaches Improv and Applied Improv with Guts Improv, as well as in corporations, NGOs, and educational institutions.

She created the format “Welcome to Dystopia,” which premiered at the Improvention Canberra Australia and has been performed over 60 shows in Taiwan.

Huai Yu is a Director at Guts Improv Theatre.

Guts Improv Theatre was founded by Wu, Hsiao-Hsien in Taipei in 2004, making it the first organization in Taiwan dedicated to professional improvisational theatre. As a pioneer in Taiwan's improv theatre scene, Guts Improv is committed to introducing and developing improv knowledge and methodologies, liberating individual and team's improv mindset and creativity through improv training. 

For over 20 years, we have hosted nearly a thousand workshops, impacting tens of thousands of students. In addition to public classes, we also serve various enterprises, startups, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions.

Since 2007, we have been holding regular ticketed performances in Taipei, touring cities across Taiwan, as well as Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, and Canberra, Australia. In 2014, we established the "Guts Improv Main Stage" in Taipei's Shuanglian area, where we perform repertory improv shows every weekend.
