Synopsis:
We can fall in love for myriad reasons. Sometimes it’s the romantic kind, but it might be the incredible love we have for family, the deepest respect for someone in our work or hobbies who has inspired and changed us, or just someone who said or did that one thing in that one moment who made you think, ‘Damn! I LOVE that person!’. It might be every second person you met at the Singapore Improv Festival.
In this workshop, you’ll rediscover the sheer joy of falling in love and how it is possible for you to love a much higher proportion of the human population than you previously thought. And in the process, to understand that loving is a choice you can make freely, safely, and at any time you choose.
In this workshop, we’ll connect with each other, developing empathy for every participant as we share honest stories. We’ll learn to listen and make those we are listening to feel warmly validated in such a genuine way that you’ll wonder what stops you from doing this all the time. We’ll do exercises that involve a focus on the other person and are so simple that you don’t need to be good at them - the exercises themselves will CAUSE play, which is a relationship, which in turn causes character and narrative.
Finally, learn the show format of the same title, so that anyone participant who is around on Monday can perform it. In every scene, someone will fall in love with someone. After a certain number of scenes, the statistics will be that everyone has now fallen in love with everyone else. The show finishes with the most beautiful example of togetherness with everyone on stage, and often with people in happy tears.
Important information:
This workshop will result in a free show on Monday, 30 Sep at the same venue (TIC “Den”). All participants from the workshop will be invited to perform. Food will be offered to audiences and performers, as part of a free gathering open to anyone who wishes to attend.

Kindly note that the workshop venue is on the 2nd level and is not wheelchair-accessible.
About the Teacher - Nick Byrne (Australia)
Nick is Artistic Director of Australia’s major international festival Improvention; Australia’s original and largest international festival and convention of unscripted theatre. He is also the Artistic Director of Impro ACT, the major improvisational theatre company in Australia’s capital, Canberra.
Nick works as an actor, director, producer, and musician, in all realms of theatre and film, and has been a delegate to the Australian Theatre Forum, but improvisation is his ruling passion. He has worked in 40 countries throughout Europe, Asia, and Australasia.
In 2023, he worked in Vietnam, Spain, Belgium, and Slovenia, and even went to Kyiv in Ukraine to donate some time to the theatre practitioners keeping their arts and hearts alive.
He teaches and directs all styles of the craft, and has done so for eighteen years, producing groundbreaking shows, “The Displaced” (refugee issues), “Crescendo” (a rock band with dramas), “Drivers” (about your internal monologues), “In Person 8” (improvised impersonations), and “Parallel” (three physical stories at once), and more recently, his popular vulnerable solo show, “Inspired”.
Nick tries to make the areas of improvisation that seem difficult, easier for performers, and reduce their worry so that they can play at their peak. He also conducts workplace sessions, helping Olympians deal with adversity, and United Nations Peacekeepers remain culturally aware. He likes to explore.
Nick is fascinated by people and always aims to meet as many as possible, at festivals and arranged workshop visits.
